Massman Automation offers a wide range of filter assembly equipment from semi-automatic to fully automatic models. These systems utilize metal clips, hot melt adhesives, or ultrasonic welding as the method of connecting the filter media or equipment to completely assemble the entire filter cartridge, including the center tube, end caps, and housing.
The Massman WB-ACAM is a fully-automatic filter cartridge assembly machine that is direct fed from either a rotary or blade pleater. This machine forms the cylindrical filter shape, can insert an optional center tube, it seams the first and last end pleats, and funnels the filter down to its specified outside diameter. The machine includes an automatic reject, has HMI assisted servo controlled changeovers and it cycles at speeds up to 30 to 60ppm depending upon seaming method.
The Massman MCAM-1300 is a semi-automatic, manual load, pleated media first and the last pleat seaming machine. It seams cellulose, synthetic or wire back media slit widths up to 13-inches (330mm), pleat heights greater than 1.5-inches (38mm) upon request, and media thickness greater than 0.125-inches (3.2mm). This is PLC controlled with HMI interfaced servos for automatic changeover adjustments within 20-seconds. The cycle speed is operator-dependent up to 30ppm.
The Massman ECAM can be purchased in either a semi-automatic manual load configuration or as a fully automatic assembly system with seamed cartridges loaded directly from a Massman seaming machine. End caps made of metal, plastic, moldable adhesive or felt in various shapes can be accommodated in diameters of 2 to 4 inches (50 to 100mm) with semi-standard machinery. Machines are PLC controlled and HMI interfaced with automatic servo changeovers where possible, often having 1-minute changeovers for dimensional variations. Cycle rates of 20, 30 and even 60 ppm are typical.
The Massman Robotic Assembly System (RAS) and Robotic Vision Assembly Systems (RVAS) are fully automatic robot systems that assemble filter components at speeds of 60, 90, and 120 ppm. Components such as filter cartridges, springs, check valves, grommets, o-rings, sensors, drain valves and nut plates have all been assembled using end effectors of various styles including expanding mandrels, vacuum or pneumatic grippers, electro or permanent magnets. The systems can be used in factory automation environments, clean rooms, and even booted for wash-down applications.

The Zipper Unwind Stand is capable of handling 16 – 32 inches diameter zipper material by up to a maximum of 22 inches wide at a rate of up to 100 feet per minute.
Massman Tin Tie Applicator with Single Fold Bag Finisher
The 4500 Series finishes filled and sealed bags by adding the tin tie reclosures and single folding the bag tops. The 4500 Series applies the tin ties to the bags with hot melt adhesive, single folds the bag tops and automatically bends the tie tabs around to hold the folded flaps. The 4500 Series can be built to place the tin tie inside OR outside the single fold. This machine can also be integrated with a vertical form fill and seal machine to provide reclosable packages from a completely automated system.
The Semi Automatic Tin Tie Applicator is available in the 2200 Series (pictured) and the 2500 Series. The LX2200 and RX2200 tin tie machines place .315″ wide, double wire tin tie, on bag faces of filled bags. Filled bags would normally be pre-sealed. The tin tie is applied using a hot melt adhesive. The Timing Gate System is available in three different versions: an air cylinder drive for speeds of up to 100 ppm, a clutch/brake system for speeds of up to 150 ppm, and a servo driven system for speeds of up to 150 ppm, depending on the product, all with single count and multiple count capabilities. The high entry palletizer accepts a case, rotates the case if necessary for label viewing, and creates rows of cases to achieve the desired tier pattern (to provide a cooling chimney where necessary), places a layer sheet as required, then lowers the pallet for the next tier, and repeats this process until the pallet is completed and discharges via a powered pallet conveyor.

The Elliott MS-30T Case Sealer is a compact machine for sealing a wide range of cases in a limited space. The taping machine is built with a single unitized machine frame, has a No Case No Kick rear flap tucker, and transfer system that insures a square case every time.
The Massman – Elliott ME-30T tape case erector is constructed with a full, 3” tubular, powder-coated steel frame and is fully enclosed with Lexan interlocked access doors controlled by a CAT 3 safety system. PLC and HMI are Allen-Bradley. Cases are picked using opposing vacuum cups that allow for the worst case scenario case blank conditions. Case squaring is accomplished using continuous contact tabbed belts moving the erected case through the system in an “open top up” orientation. A 3M tape head is standard with options for other manufacturers. Speeds up to 35 CPM have been proven dependent on case width and length.
